Oh man, there were a LOT of games I played in February this year. It might have been the most stacked month for game releases in recent memory, at least in the genres I like to play. Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, Civ 7, Avowed, Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, and Monster Hunter Wilds all came out in the last month alone.  If I had more time with Monster Hunter Wilds I think I would have put in a hundred hours over the course of the month – I put in 10 hours on launch day, somehow. But because it launched on the last day of Feb, the game I played the most last month ended up being Civilization 7 at around 40 hours total. 

Now that I've finally experienced Ghost of Tsushima, I'm juggling another big game from my backlog along with some new ones. I've just started my first playthrough of Cyberpunk 2077, but have put some time in to Avowed and will probably continue doing so. I've also had the privilege of checking out Two Point Museum, so far so good! What are you firing up this weekend?

I knew KCD2 was going to be special when an NPC rightfully accused me of stealing everything in their house that wasn't nailed. The world reacts to the things you do in ways you wouldn't expect, and combine that with top-tier acting from the cast, a refined combat system, and storytelling worthy of the big screen, and you have yourself a surefire GOTY contender.

I hate having to follow NPCs, and even more so if I can't match their pace. KCD2 (for the most part) bids farewell to those moments of frustration where you are either too fast or too slow for the person you're trying to escort by having an Auto-Follow feature, and I really think more devs should implement this in their games from now on.

I usually go down the archer route whenever I play a medieval RPG, but in KCD2, playing as the usual knight-in-shining-armor archetype just feels right. The game offers a lot of freedom on how to build Henry, but given his status as a squire, playing him as anything but a melee fighter in plate armor feels like a disservice to his character, in my opinion.

I have yet to play Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 myself but have seen and heard plenty about how amazing it is at being both a medieval sim and a deep, crunchy RPG. I have heard that the combat can sometimes feel wonky, though, and it made me think of how much I liked the grand-scale combat of Mount and Blade: Warband (and later entries in the series). The game doesn't have the in-depth choices and living world of KCD2, but in my opinion, there's no game that's ever come as close to creating that feeling of leading a medieval army as Mount and Blade.

I'm not a fan of the Saviour Schnapps system, honestly. I understand that it's a deliberate design choice to make the game more immersive and to make death more meaningful, but I'd rather enjoy the game casually and at my own pace without having to worry about things like that. However, I do believe it'd be a good thing to have for a Hardcore difficulty or something similar.

The secret ingredient to having the best possible KCD2 start is crime. Grab yourself some nice starting gear by stealing a Troskowitz town guard's keys and looting their armory. After that, you'll be set for the rest of this half of the game (or at least until you find better equipment).

For me, it's a solid 9.5/10. Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 has one of the most immersive RPG worlds I've played so far, and even though I'm not a fan of this type of setting, it still managed to draw me in and completely capture my attention with how detailed everything is. I'd give it a perfect score if not for minor nitpicks regarding certain combat animations, but overall, I really like it, and we'd love to know how you feel about the game too over at our Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 page!
