The newest set of books coming for the 2024 revision to Dungeons and Dragons includes a special incentive for Baldur's Gate 3 fans, with some Astarion-themed content. The newest revision to the beloved tabletop RPG brought with it plenty of changes to the game's core rulebook, aimed at both empowering the players and refreshing the gameplay. Dungeons and Dragons' new core rulebooks brought a variety of new subclasses for fan-favorite classes like Bard and Barbarian, alongside new mechanics, monsters, and more. Now, Baldur's Gate fans are getting a special treat with the next new books.
The smash-hit RPG based on Dungeons and Dragons from Larian Studios took the world by storm, following Baldur's Gate 3's long-awaited release in 2023. Baldur's Gate 3 cleaned up at several annual awards shows for its engaging narrative and gameplay, winning the coveted Game of the Year at the 2023 Game Awards. Larian also continued to support the game well beyond its initial launch, with multiple free updates adding new subclasses and even an epilogue to Baldur's Gate 3's story. Fans of Baldur's Gate 3 are now getting some new content for tabletop Dungeons and Dragons.
As reported by PCGamer, Dungeons and Dragons fans buying the bundle containing the new "Forgotten Realms" books will be given a special Astarion-themed DLC. The digital book, titled "Astarion's Book of Hungers," includes a playable version of the dhampir for 2024 D&D, alongside three new vampire backgrounds and eighteen new feats. The package will also contain a short adventure module, allowing Dungeons and Dragons players to team up with Astarion for a special quest as part of the new book. Astarion's Book of Hungers even includes a map of a tavern that Astarion frequented before the events of Baldur's Gate 3.
New Forgotten Realms D&D Books Feature Astarion DLC
The new Astarion-themed content is far from the first time Dungeons and Dragons has ventured into crossovers with the game. Dungeons and Dragons previously debuted multiple series of miniature figures based on Baldur's Gate 3, allowing fans to pick up "minis" of characters like Shadowheart, Astarion, and Minthara. Many fans have suggested some of the rule changes in Dungeons and Dragons' 2024 revision may have been inspired by Baldur's Gate 3 as well, including healing potions only requiring a Bonus Action and the new Weapon Masteries.
Baldur's Gate 3's new Dungeons and Dragons content will look to satiate fans who are hungry for more news from Larian Studios. The developer has confirmed that it will be moving on from Baldur's Gate following Baldur's Gate 3's success, teasing a new original project from Larian Studios. Larian was previously rumored to be returning to Divinity with Divinity: Original Sin 3, though the studio has not directly confirmed a continuation to the RPG franchise. Whichever direction Larian Studios takes with its next game, fans of Baldur's Gate 3 will likely be eager to follow along.
